The Pros and Cons of Memory Foam

We can all agree there is nothing better than a good night's sleep and this is even more true, when you are travelling. Waking up every morning feeling refreshed and invigorated not only enhances your day but increases your health significantly.

At Duvalay, we are convinced that you can transform the way you sleep on the move by using our range of memory foam products, but you may wonder if they will improve the quality of your sleep. We put together the following information to help you decide…

  • What Is Memory Foam?
Memory Foam was first designed in the 1960s for NASA airplane seats and is made from a substance called Visco elastic.

By moulding to the body in response to heat and pressure, it evenly distributes body weight. Once you remove your body weight, Memory Foam returns to its original shape. The better the density of the Memory Foam the quicker it will regain its shape. These properties make Memory Foam incredibly comfortable.

  • What Are the Benefits of Memory Foam?
The preferences for sleep surfaces are individual and there is quite a bit of variability between what type of surface you may prefer when you are sleeping whether it's firm, hard, or soft.

Memory Foam can improve your sleep as it relieves the many pressure points in our body. When you lie on Memory Foam, the heat from your body softens it in appropriate points and therefore, this helps to support your body along the curves and natural lines of your body.

Also, by minimizing extra movement through alleviating pressure on painful joints, could reduce the number of times you awaken during the night.

  • Are there any Disadvantages of Memory Foam?
The Duvalay range of Memory Foam products are manufactured with breathable, washable protectors which work with your body temperature to help reduce heat retention, and also eliminate chemical odours.

However, some Memory Foam products may retain body heat, which could make them less comfortable in warm weather. When new, Memory Foam can sometimes produce an odd chemical smell called off gassing. To minimize this problem, we recommend airing out any mattress, topper pad or pillow for up to 24 hours before use.
